Someone Who Cares

I think one of the simplest things we can do in life is, care.

Anastasia, a friend and refugee from Ukraine shared, “If you lost your home or lost someone, no one can get the people back to you. But when you see that someone cares, it helps you to believe that something good is still there for you because you’re not alone in this.”

The devastation we are seeing around the globe is unfathomable. And to some it is all too personal: sons, daughters, wives, husbands, loved ones.

While being a refugee herself, she refused safe travel to Germany and now goes back across the border to help other refugees. “I’ll go up to the women at the border and say, ‘Would you like a hug?’ They would say, ‘Yeah, yeah, sure.’ The feeling was, ‘I need this hug too.’” They would share a hug and then a cup of tea.

Care can be shown in simply being present, a hug, a cup of tea. And all of those things are universal.

And when we know someone cares about us, it opens up another world of possibilities for us to do the same.

It was just a month prior, someone had met Anastasia at the border and welcomed her into their home. Sometimes, all it takes to change the world, is someone who cares.
