Let’s Give Raimunda a Home!

Walking through Brazil two years ago, we passed an older lady sitting in the window of a very small house. We walked up, asked if we could take her picture and found out her name is Raimunda (pronounced: “hi-moon-duh”). As we were shooting, we told her she was very pretty, and afterwards we got talking about her life ... she’s 84, and said no one has told her once in her life she’s pretty.

The next day we walked by her house again and she invited us to come inside. Her two-room house was bare, except for an old bed, a hammock and small stove ... not even a single chair, table, or ounce of food. She told us she was abandoned by her family after she had cancer 20 yrs ago, and there’s no one to take care of her. So, a few of us drove to a shop in town, purchased a kitchen table, lots of different chairs, tons of house supplies, 100lbs of food (6-8 months for her), and so much more.

For the past twenty years, Raimunda has struggled to make ends meet, going door to door around her neighborhood nearly every day asking for food. The house she currently lives in is not her own (it’s vacant, and the owners are letting her stay there until paying tenants are found) but she’s now living more comfortably.

July 21, 2021 update: We very sadly woke up to a text today saying Raimunda was kicked out of her house and is now homeless. Her cancer came back earlier this year. Let’s give her a permanent home where she never needs to worry about being kicked out of again. A permanent house will only cost $15,000 USD. That’s it. We can raise $15,000 for her! Raimunda’s family abandoned her 20 years ago, now we get to be her global family and take care of this wonderful woman. Every penny raised through this page goes directly to her, and is tax-deductible.
